This is the big question that everyone wants to know! Unfortunately, there's no simple, answer.
For acne, folliculitis, and ingrown hairs, some people notice the first improvements within a week. Other people will need to wait 2 to 4 weeks to see changes. It depends on your unique skin and also how consistently you apply the product(s).
For aging skin and hyperpigmentation, improvements occur gradually over time. You’ll likely start to notice results after a few weeks, and as you use Almond Clear over multiple months, you’ll see the improvements continue to stack up.
You should check with your doctor about this. People with nut allergies are typically allergic to nut proteins. Mandelic acid contains no nut proteins.
Almond Clear products are powered by mandelic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that's derived from bitter almonds.
Skin peeling, otherwise known as exfoliation, is a critical step in improving a wide variety of skin concerns. Many people mistakenly believe that if a product dries their skin a little, then this product is too “harsh” and so they reduce or stop their usage. This is a huge mistake that will prevent people from getting the best results.
It’s true that uncomfortably dry, red, or irritated skin should be avoided. If your skin gets painfully dry then you need to decrease usage. On the other hand, flaking skin that is not tender or irritated is exactly what you should be experiencing when you start using a new alpha hydroxy acid (AHA).
Almond Clear is powered by mandelic acid, an AHA that’s derived from bitter almonds. When applied to the skin, it dissolves the bonds between dead skin cells. These cells flake off both on the surface of your skin as well as inside the pores. As skin cell turnover increases, a variety of skin improvements occur. Clogged debris is dissolved and can escape from the pores. Hyperpigmented skin cells are exfoliated and replaced with new, normally-pigmented cells. Ingrown hairs that were held under dead skin can escape the surface of the skin. And the skin cell turnover stimulates your body to produce collagen and elastin, two proteins that are responsible for firm and plump-looking skin. If you don’t allow your skin to peel, then none of these improvements will occur.
You’ll experience maximum drying over the first few weeks of using Almond Clear. That’s why it’s important to gradually work up to daily applications because this gives your skin time to adapt. After six to eight weeks of Almond Clear usage, your skin should no longer flake.
To combat flaking skin, use a non-comedogenic moisturizer as often as needed. And make sure to wash your hands after applying the serum so that your palms don’t peel.
If you can deal with a few weeks of peely skin, then you’re much more likely to achieve your skincare goals!
Yes! Studies show that mandelic acid, the main active ingredient in Almond Clear, is very effective at clearing hyperpigmentation. Click here to read more about how Almond Clear improves dark scars and hyperpgimentation.
You can apply moisturizer as often as needed to help with the skin-drying that is a common side effect of Almond Clear usage.
For acne-prone skin, choose a non-comedogenic moisturizer that is specially formulated for acne-prone skin. There are many brands to choose from.
For folliculitis-prone skin, checkout the list of folliculitis-safe products at Simple Skincare Science. For fungal folliculitis, it's incredibly important to choose a product that won't exacerbate your blemishes.
For all other skin concerns, choose a scent-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer. A good, inexpensive option is Cera Ve Daily Moisturizing Lotion.
It’s unlikely that you’ll experience any purging If you’ve already been using an exfoliating product like a different skincare acid, a vitamin A product like Retin-A, or benzoyl peroxide.
If your skin isn’t accustomed to exfoliating products, then you could experience purging. Purging normally happens for 1-2 weeks, and after it stops your skin will be significantly more clear. It is a hard, but necessary step in the skin clearing process, and once you're through with the purging stage, you'll be well on your way to smoother, clearer skin.
Absolutely! The Level 1 serum is very helpful for clearing and preventing ingrown hairs in that area, and for reducing hyperpigmenation. Just be sure to avoid applying it to the inner labia, as this will cause an uncomfortable burning sensation. Flushing with water will clear the burning feeling.
